Have you heard? Terry McAuliffe leads Ken Cuccinelli in the Virginia governor’s race due almost exclusively to female voters, who prefer Virginia NOW PAC-endorsed McAuliffe over Tea Party favorite Cuccinelli by 24 points.
We have to keep up the pressure! That why Virginia NOW members are working hard to get out the women’s vote. This week, we are launching our “Women’s Votes Will Decide The Future” postcard campaign.
Right now, 25,000 postcards are being printed. Across the state, NOW members and friends are organizing postcard parties at homes, coffee shops, and community centers. If you’d like to join a postcard party, email firstname.lastname@example.org.

(Note: these candidates are not incumbents. We will release our endorsed incumbent list next week.)
The Virginia NOW PAC was established in 1978 and endorses candidates at the state and local level who support our positions on a wide range of social justice issues affecting women and families. Virginia NOW is a membership organization with chapters in Alexandria, Arlington, Charlottesville, Fairfax County (NoVA), Fredericksburg, Montgomery County, Richmond, Rockbridge County, the Vienna-McLean area, and Williamsburg.
Virginia NOW fights for women’s rights and social justice, including access to comprehensive reproductive health services, equal pay, strong laws to protect women from sexual violence and all forms of harassment, health care for all, protection of voting rights and an end to voter suppression, and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to ensure that women are – at long last – part of the Constitution.

Emergency contraception, commonly called Plan B, is an FDA-approved form of contraception that prevents pregnancy after sex. Because it can stop a pregnancy before it starts, it’s not an “abortion pill” but rather a “morning-after” pill that can be taken up to three days after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.
The Plan B pill is available at pharmacies without a prescription if you’re 17 or older but you need to ask for it at the pharmacy counter. (Those younger than 17 need a prescription.) There are four EC products on the market: Next Choice® (two pills), Plan B One-Step® (one pill), and Levonorgestrel Tablets, all of which work like a high-dose birth control pill. Another EC product, called ella®, is effective up to 5 days after unprotected sex but is only available by prescription.
NoVA NOW supports a woman’s right to privacy and the right to walk into any facility she wants without insults or judgment.
If you choose to abort a pregnancy, visit a supportive facility such as Amethyst Health Center For Women in Manassas.
Beware of the crisis pregnancy center (CPC) called AAA Women for Choice, which intentionally misleads women about the status of her pregnancy, provides misleading facts about safe sex or the various forms of contraception, and/or any other possible health factors that might influence her decision to terminate her pregnancy.
